I was sitting in a cramped exam hall last Tuesday, watching a student stare at a prompt with absolute dread, when I realized once again how much we overcomplicate things. They had studied the grammar books for months, yet they were still stumbling over the basics of how the present continuous is used because they
Stop wasting your money on those high-tech vocabulary apps that promise fluency through repetitive tapping. I’ve spent nineteen years watching brilliant, hardworking adults sit for exams only to stumble because they treated language like a math equation. They memorize a thousand isolated definitions, yet when the exam paper asks them to use those words in
I was sitting in a cramped, overheated exam hall last Tuesday, staring at a pile of essays from students who had clearly studied for months. They had the vocabulary, they had the complex grammar, and they had the ambition—but they were bleeding marks because they didn’t understand how to write a topic sentence that actually
I was sitting in a cramped, windowless exam center last Tuesday, watching a student stare at a writing prompt with that specific look of quiet desperation. He was brilliant, a professional with years of experience, yet he was bleeding marks because he was trying to use “will” for every single upcoming event in his essay.

They think they’ve been studying, but

I’ve sat across from hundreds of exhausted adult learners, watching them flip through color-coded flashcards with a look of pure desperation. They think they’re studying, but they’re actually just performing a ritual of forgetting. Most people approach this topic with far too much unnecessary complexity, buying expensive apps or following convoluted schedules that look great
